I began my career as a nurse working as a bedside nurse and nurse practitioner for over 10 years at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. After being exposed to psychotherapy, I decided to veer from my career path and returned to graduate school to complete a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. My nursing career gave me a strong foundation in working with patients and their families in crisis. The work experience shaped my understanding that each patient and family has a unique story with varying beliefs, norms, and patterns of interaction. Understanding each client’s perspective is an integral part of the therapeutic process.
